Over 100 people are on hand every evening to ensure the smooth operation of each haunt. As a division of The Gateway, Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County, Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse utilizes the numerous theatrical designers and staff at the Gateway – Long Island’s oldest professional theatre. Dozens of professionally trained actors prepare and rehearse each character that inhabits the haunt, giving it a unique, theatrical quality unrivaled on the island. Here are 12 month-long events to get you in the spirit of “spooky season” this year. Chambers celebrates every year of fear with a total renovation to make it’s experience longer and scarier than ever before. New in 2022 we have new scenes and screams, a new Coffin Ride, Brand New Escape Rooms, A Hellevator Experience, tons of photos and a new gift store. Smaller children are invited to attend the Not So Scary Adventure for Kids, which will be held Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 12pm-4pm in October. Children explore a well-lit, Halloween-themed playhouse that introduces fun characters along the way. Admission includes activities such as face painting, balloons and an inflatable pumpkin bouncer.

One legend has it there was a hospital here that burnt down sometime during the 1700s or 1800s—with some patients and staff still trapped inside—only to be rebuilt on the same site to tragically burn down again. Another speaks of a deranged nurse who set the blaze and roams the woods with or without a number of faceless children. With Covid-19 changing the haunted houses in Long Island, there have been some creative alterations. The Cemetery of Lost Souls has created The Hunt as a safe, socially distanced, haunted scavenger hunt. It takes visitors through haunted locations in Eastern Nassau County and Suffolk County on Long Island that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
Several people have also claimed to see a woman standing at the top of the stairs. Other houses haunted by ghosts in the village include the Schenck Dutch Farmhouse, the reception center, the Hewlett House, the Noon Inn, the Layton Store, and the Williams House. Families can enjoy both scary and non-scary Halloween fun at the Center for Science, Teaching, and Learning’s Spooky Fest.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for children on weekdays, and $30 for adults and $25 for children on weekends. The haunt will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October, as well as Oct. 27 and 31.
